NPC – Mei Chele

On the Wandering Isle you can find Mei Chele and Lamplighter Mu – named after Michele Morrow (and her boyfriend Michael Weitzman), Scream Queen of horror movies, and whom is also the gorgeous lady who hosted DirecTV’s coverage of Blizzcon in 2014 and 2015.

Michele has been a WoW player since 2007, after she had a major accident, and was given a copy of the game by her boyfriend. She immersed herself in the community and according to the her Community Spotlight Article, she involved herself in charity work and also did a number of other video-game related hosting gigs including at San Diego Comic Con in 2015. She has gaming streams and a podcast – she is one busy lady!

I’ve always admired her Blizzcon coverage style, and now it’s great to know a bit more about her and how she is involved with this game I love so much. She is even now the voice of Alleria Windrunner in Hearthstone!

She also has a Garrison follower named after her, Mychele Morrowsong. I must work on finding that follower!

NPC – Pitfighter Vaandaam

Pitfighter Vaandaam

Those of you who have Alliance Garrisons will know this fellow (as he becomes a follower – the Horde equivalent is Bruto), but for us Hordies we may never encounter him.  Pitfighter Vaandaam is found in Gorgrond  and is a reference to Jean-Claude Van Damme, and also a computer game, called Pitfighter.  Pitfighter is an arcade fighting game whose characters (Ty, Buzz and Kato) were based on 3 characters from Bloodsport, a movie in which Van Damme starred (character’s name was Frank Dux). Ty bears a resemblance to Dux in the movie (according to a translated Portuguese Wikipedia). There is no mention of this, however on the English versions, but I think as both are kickboxers, that is where the resemblance lies.

Unfortunately the NPC doesn’t have any quotes that would back this up!

NPC – Lieutenant Horatio Laine

Lieutenant Horatio Laine

As you enter Westfall from Elwynn Forest you will encounter a crime scene, and Lieutenant Horatio Laine is there with some quests for you to uncover what really happened.  This NPC is a reference to CSI:Miami’s main character Lieutenant Horatio Caine, played by David Caruso.  His character has some rather defining mannerisms – including drawling out his sentences as he puts on or takes off his shades, as well as saying a drawn out “Yeahhhh.”

The NPC also says some lines as a throwback to Lieutenant Caine:

Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: No kidding, rookie…
Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: Looks like they really put the cart…
Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: …before the horse

Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: Doesn’t look good, rookie.
Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: This was an execution. Whoever did this was sending a message…
Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: A message for anyone who would dare snitch on these criminals.
Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: It would appear that poor Lou really put his foot…
Lieutenant Horatio Laine says: In his mouth…

And I didn’t see this when I was doing the quest, but apparently he puts on shades as he kneels down to investigate a scene!

What a shame he doesn’t say “Yeaaaaaahhhh.”

Battle Pets – Shademaster Kiryn’s Nairn, Stormoen and Summer

Shademaster Kiryn is one of the NPCs you have to beat in the Celestial Tournament.  Her pets are named after characters in George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series (Game of Thrones).

Nairn is the humanoid yeti and is named for Kristian Nairn who plays Hodor in the series.  A resemblance do you think?

Stormoen the Fluxfire Feline is named after the actor Jake Stormoen, a friend of Kristian Nairn.  Apparently they both visited Blizzard and they both play WoW!

Summer the Wolf (beast) is the name of Bran Stark’s Dire wolf in the series.

NPC – Endora Moorehead

This was brought to my attention by Mataoka of Sugar and Blood.

Endora Moorehead is a reference to the character Endora from the TV show Bewitched.  Her name is a combination of “Endora”, the mother of the main character Samantha Stevens, and Agnes “Moorehead”, the actress who played her.  This NPC can be found near the Alliance Inn in Dalaran in the shop “The Sisters Sorcerous”.

Her sister in the shop, Hagatha Moorehead is also a reference to a character from the TV show Bewitched.  Aunt Hagatha and Aunt Enchantra were sisters of Endora and made a number of appearances in the first 4 seasons of the show.

NPC – Shen Kang Cheng

This NPC is found in Dalaran and is a reference to Jackie Chan, the Hong Kong Kung Fu moviestar!  Jackie Chan’s chinese name is  陳  (Chan Kong Sang in Cantonese, and Chen Kang Sheng in Mandarin).  Appropriate to have him as a staves vendor as Kung Fu often use staves in their fighting.

NPC – Audrey Burnhep

This NPC pet battle trainer is found in Stormwind City .  Her name is a play on Audrey Hepburn, though the connection between pet battling and Ms Hepburn eludes me.  And the NPC doesn’t really look like her either.  But who knows what Blizz was thinking? 🙂

NPC – Willy Wilder

This image comes courtesy of Luxy who snapped him outside the Black market Auction House!  Extra info from Bubbles of Mischief and Wowhead.

Willy Wilder

Though I havent’ seen him myself, Willy Wilder is a play on Willy Wonka (played by Gene Wilder in the original movie of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).  He spawns in The Veiled stair and bids on Blood Soaked Invitations.  He is an angry fellow – he attacks you with Stuffed and Violets and Blueberries – very Willy Wonka type attacks!  If you kill him he is really does have a blood soaked invitation 🙂

Jurassic Park NPCs in WoW

With patch 5.2, 2 new islands appeared off Pandaria.  The Isle of Giants is located North of Kun-Lai and is inhabited by lots of elite dinosaurs!  It’s Jurassic Park!

isle of giants

TRex family Triceratops More Dinos

Now this is hilarious.  Does anyone remember the scene from Jurassic Park II: The Lost World when they took the T-Rex on a boat to the city?  Does this not remind you of that scene?

Trex on a boat

And of course there are a whole heap of NPCs on the island named after characters in the movies, both Horde and Alliance.

Nedris Smuggler

Named after Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park, the fat computer tech guy who was stealing the embryos and got killed by dilophosaurii whilst trying to get off the island

Nellie Sattler

Named after Dr Ellie Sattler, the paleobotanist in Jurassic park. She says:
“At least there are no electrified fences. Or trolls.”
“Be careful, Agrant!”
“How could we know anything about an extinct ecosystem? Even the plants are poisonous!”
“I told you that you weren’t machine compatible!”
“We can make it if we run!”
“You only brought enough food for seven days! Seven! That’s just great.”

Agrant Sharpshot

Named after Dr Alan Grant, the paleontologist in Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park 3

Atten Hamlock

Though the name is a bit obscure, this one is named after John Hammond, played by Richard Attenborough. It even looks a bit like him with the beard and the small stature!  He has cool quotes when you talk to him from the movie:
“Agrant? Nellie? Isn’t it a bit dangerous to be outside of the zeppelin?”
“For some odd reason, I love to stare at this cane. Hmmm…”
“How could the expedition be a failure? I spared no expense!”
“What we need is some sort of protein-based population control. Perhaps we should have thought of that before coming here.”
“When we have control of the expedition again, everything will be fine…”

Arnold Raygun

Named after Ray Arnold (played by Samuel L Jackson) the Chief Engineer of Jurassic Park in the original movie.

Ion Goldbloom

Named for Ian Malcolm, played by Jeff Goldbloom in the Jurassic park movies, he apparently even says some awesome movie related quotes:
“It’s, ah, the cycle of life, mm. The light creates troll, troll creates dinosaur, dinosaur eats human, trolls inherit Azeroth.”
“Do you think they’ll have this on the, ah, tour? Hm?”
“Anyone, ah, hear that? It’s ah, it’s ah, an impact tremor.”
“Am I, mm, talking to myself? I am? See there, I’m right again.”
“Remind me to thank Hamlock for a lovely weekend.”

NPC – Katrina Turner

Katrina Turner is named for Tina Turner who plays Aunty Entity in the movie Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.  She can be found in Gadgetzan, Tanaris, standing next to the cage named Thunderdrome.  Tina Turner also sings the song “We Don’t Need Another Hero” which is the theme song for the movie.  A good likeness!

And here is a picture of Thunderdrome in Gadgetzan.

And Dr Dealwell (reference to Dr Dealgood in the movie)
